2 Hertfordshire well-respected volunteers, Jackie Mizon and Karen Cartwright, were appointed to the World Youth Cup in Gibraltar in September.

Jackie was appointed as one of two Competition Managers, supporting Maggie Jackson, Head of Competition.

See Jackie’s reflections below:

"I had a fabulous experience at NWYC 2025 Gibraltar and was proud to be part of a pinnacle event for World Netball. This was a very different experience for me, as I was not involved in my usual role as a Match Official. Instead, I was appointed as one of two Competition Managers, supporting Maggie Jackson, Head of Competition.

Being part of the Workforce Team - a wonderful mix of Gibraltarian and international netball volunteers - was one of the most enjoyable adventures I’ve had in netball. It was hard work, but an absolute privilege to work behind the scenes with the teams, match and technical officials, and the wider group of talented people it takes to deliver a world-class netball event.

It was also a memorable experience to work alongside Technical Bench Manager Karen Cartwright from Herts Netball. I’m especially grateful for the support and collaboration of both Karen and Technical Officials Manager, Pat Percy. What an amazing job all the technical officials do!

Finally, a special mention must go to my partner Competition Manager, Kendra Slawinski. We certainly faced our share of challenges across an event hosted in two different venues, but we also had the most amazing time, made lifelong friends, and created many special memories to treasure. Happy Days!"

Karen was appointed as Team Bench Co-Ordinator – see her memories below:-

"A wonderful experience, something I feel very privileged to have been part of.

My role was that of Team Bench Co-Ordinator, very much a support and mentoring role for the Technical Officials. The Technical Officials work very closely with the umpires, and are responsible for the scoring and timing of matches, this requires focus, concentration and team work, which the TOs had in abundance.  The TOs support for each other was amazing and each challenge (and there were a few) encountered was met with care and professionalism.

I had the pleasure of working with a great bunch of people, TOs, volunteers and support staff, some reacquainted but many new friendships. Gibraltar I have made memories that I will treasure for a long time."
