HERTFORDSHIRE LAUNCHES THE YELLOW BAND UNITE TOGETHER TO VALUE, SUPPORT, DEVELOP AND SAFEGUARD OUR UNDER 18 UMPIRES!
Over the last 2 years Hertfordshire has seen a growth in U18 learners commencing their officiating journey. Within the East region, our county has one of the highest numbers of Under 18 umpires, both in training and qualifying at Into-Officiating and C award levels. They are our future workforce and as such we want the Hertfordshire netball community to unite together in valuing, supporting, developing and safeguarding these umpires. From January 2026 Hertfordshire will commence the launch of the Yellow Band initiative within our local and community leagues.
The yellow band will serve as a visible reminder to all parents, officials, coaches and spectators that the umpire is under 18. All members of the netball community need to be mindful of the band and ensure that they value our Under 18 umpires and show them the respect, empathy and support they deserve. They are our future and without their continued development along the umpire pathway, there will be fewer umpires which will mean fewer matches, divisions and leagues.
